Connectacom UK Ltd had a requirement for a new digital phone system to upgrade from an analogue system. The customer required DDI numbers and a trunk-to-trunk transfer facility which is only available on digital lines with a digital system.
The customer ordered 6 channels of ISDN2e as an upgrade from 6 analogue lines from BT, they chose to retain the old phone number to provide continuity to customers. LCUK recommended a Samsung DCS816, with 8 digital extensions (6 for display phones, 2 spare for future expansion), 2 analogue extensions (for answerphone and fax machine), and 6 digital display handsets (one for each member of full-time staff). We also installed a budget CD player for the music on hold facility.
On the day of the BT upgrade LCUK was on site and installed the system as the ISDN2e was brought into service mid-morning. The customer experienced only around 20mins downtime as a result of the upgrade (the customer could have avoided the downtime altogether by asking BT for an “out of hours” upgrade or getting the ISDN2e lines on a new phone number). The new system gave the company more flexibility internally, and provided a better company image to prospective clients.
